Above all, consult with your doctor or mental health specialist if you are feeling depressed or any other concerning mental health issues.

Set Small Goals:

Although you may not be able to engage in most regular activities, setting small and realistic goals realistic are important to feeling a sense of control in your journey. The goals can vary based on your current condition and what you want to accomplish. Celebrate each victory, whether it’s improving your yoga poses, increasing flexibility, or improving your time on the hand bike. Write each victory down to create a visual reminder of your success.

Engage in Mindfulness:

Incorporate mindfulness into your daily habits  to help manage stress and stay positive. Post surgery/injury, you can feel sadness and pressure for the time that will be taken away during your recovery. To help with this, engage in activities such as journaling, meditating and words of affirmation. There is a hurdle to this process and there are plenty of tools to help you get Started . By practicing mindfulness, you can also help understand where you are mentally and understand your bodily needs and limitations. It can feel impossible to not allow negativity to consume you while in recovery, but by using mindfulness you can find your personal comfort. Write down everything that you feel and understand what’s the best approach to solve them. The best way to engage in mindfulness is to be consistent. Consistency is the key to making mindfulness a part of who you are.

Don’t Be Afraid To Rely on Others:

Although this sounds intuitive, it’s important to surround yourself with friends, family, and healthcare professionals who can provide physical and emotional support during your recovery process. In many people , there is. a sense of isolation and loneliness. An injury can be isolating by making you feel like you lost your sense of autonomy and control. But sharing your concerns with others, that can help alleviate the feeling of isolation. For some that have problems connecting with friends or family, seeking a Counselor is a good option to consider. If there is someone you know that had a similar injury, ask for lessons they learned during their recovery. If there are support groups available, never be afraid to take advantage of them.

Prioritize Nutrition

Paying attention to your Nutritional Diet is a crucial role in promoting physical and mental health during a recovery process. Start by create a list of quick healthy meals you can prep. Meal prep is a good habit to have so you have readily available meals ready for a period of time. If your injury is too severe that you cannot cook, there are plenty of healthy frozen meals option in places like Trader Joe’s and Whole Foods. There are also online delivery services that can ship healthy meals right to you door. Having a healthy diet doesn’t mean restricting foods you enjoy. Create good habits and gives yourself room to enjoy unhealthy foods as well. Your journey to recovery is long so be forgiving if you fall short sometimes. Understand your restrictions and try your best to work around them.

These are only some of the options available to create good habits for yourself during the recovery process. But above all, Focus fully on your own well-being and never be afraid to reach out to people. Prioritize your body and never do any of the listed tips if you don’t feel comfortable.
